I lived in Pomona until 1996. My son was born at CHOC, Childrens
Hospital of Orange County. The ONLY thing he remembers about living in
SoCal is our trips on the model trains I used to take him on before we
came to Tennessee in 2000.

Great tips. I particularly like the tips on the Aristo Rogers. By the
way, #030 or #031 buna-n o-rings work great as replacement traction
tires for the Rogers. The round shape may actually grip better.

Your article was very helpful with my rebuild. The only difference on my
Atlantic is I replaced the main drivers & side rods machined out of
steel by one of the guys I work with in a machine shop. I didn't have to
add weight because of the wheels. It only draws about a 1/2 amp more
than a stock model. Thanks for the info & insparation to do the project!

At last some words on Q S I boards. I have approx 20 of these and am so
pleased with the ones I have fitted to my Aristo locomotives with the
plug and play board . There are problems when you come to older issue
boards using the Magunm board and I am really struggling fitting them to
U S A locomotives as the light outputs do not seem to have a voltage
control and I have melted some bulbs into the plastic bodys . From an
agreed standard for all systems to be compatable NMRA it is getting to
be a free for all and who are the loosers why US . I have reverted to
using Massoth decoders for everything except the sound side of things .
When I Emailed QSI they just said they do not accept compatability with
all systems is a feature . So there you are another case of standards
not being followed! U S A trains are surely as big a player as most in
our hobby ! Buyer Beware Brent

layout in a bar I am finishing next to my home office. 16'x48' large
oval with a yard ...the trains will be delivering beers to my friends
drinking it up.

I am a volunteer at the Western Railway Museum. I can answer your
questions about the equipment. Last May the museum opened its third car
barn. Now all the historic equipment is under cover.

And you should see the SN 1005 a wooden Interurban from 1912. It is the
jewel in the museum crown.

The silver box car is from the Naval Depot- Oakland it was built for
WWII service.

The CCT 19 caboose is ex Western Pacific 741 and will be restored for
out steam era freight train pulled by WP 334 (Alco, 1929)

The SN line restoration has reached about 5 and a half miles with poles
ready to get wire as soon as a sub-station is built.

Let me know more if youhave questions

Your map wasn't what I wanted - I found that somewhere else. Instead I
read your travel account and found it very interesting, complimentary
even! I used to commute regularly between Lancaster and St Helens,
changing at Warrington Bank Quay. I've always hated those single-axled
diesel units, bumping and jumping all over the place. Still, love
railways!

Wonderful site! I have so much to learn. One question: a new REA
AristoCraft FA-1 I recently acquired runs BACKWARDS to my other FA-1 and
an FB-1 I already have. Has that ever happened to anyone else? Is there
a need or an easy way to rewire it to run the same direction with my
other units?

So much info I'll be looking it over in the next days. I have swittched
from regular dcc ( digitrax super chief 8 amp) to MTH's DCS system. I
still have the dcc (like a nce d408 decoder that I like). I bought a
Locksound 3.5xl which sounds great but encountered so many problems. I
could not get the back emf to allow the usa sd40 to run smooth. I tried
to contact ESU without success. I then posted for help but just changed
direction back to the DCS system which I worked out all the problems.
Now I'll stay with MTH/QSI. I have learned a lot from the help of posts
like yours but some were too late after I went the wrong directions.

Thanks for all the work and sharing it. Just today I removed the pickups
from my US Trains GP-38. I'm running it battery power with Airwire.
Thanks for spurring me on to remove the covers. It was a piece of cake.

Wow, I feel like I owe you a beer for posting so much usefull
information on your website about these large trains. My current layout
is outgrowing my garage and I'm setting up my first garden layout. I'm
using a C-19 to replicate the Knotts Berry Farm railroad. I look foward
to using much learned information from your website!

The evolution of the van
The colors of station wagon were developed certainly in this direction
near last 5 years. White it can still dominate, but more and more we are
seeing a new level of the man van sophistication in which it was once
only a type of utilitarian one of the metal box in wheels ‹ something
only to transport instruments and bags from cement. And nowhere better
it is this rising revealed tendency of what in now the second commonest
color of new station wagons ‹ silver.
It is also the case that while the station wagons were of prestige, many
cars began to look a bit to station wagons ‹ the more and more
ubiquitous SUVs, for example, with or without aggressive bars of bull.
So many drivers of car now try a position of similar driving and the
sense of the siege to that of the driver of station wagon, the notion of
being there two different sorts in the ways begins to be corroded. The
man van occupied mother, bringing together his children of the school so
that you do not link victims whitewash them to now understands only too
well the plight of the delivery driver with a tight schedule seeking a
temporary parking space in his relatively chunky vehicle. At the other
end of the spectrum the superstar David Beckham counts a pick-up truck ‹
admittedly a macho black Ford Harley with a supercharged engine ‹ among
his favourite modes of transport.
The driver of station wagon, on the man van contrary with his
comfortable seats, fitted carpets and system of stereo sound begins to
feel that he is directing something that has much more in common with
cars of his own people and different. More do he feels relegated to the
box that vibrates of a humble craftsman, in which the unique dent or the
healthy scratch of little consequence. He begins to take a bit more
taken care. He is more like a driver of car.
WVM still lives on of course. But he is gradually being replaced by an
altogether different breed, that of NVM ‹ New Van Man. NVM was there all
along, of course, as our earlier research showed. But now are we able to
recognize him more clearly in a vehicle that better reflects his
aspirations and even his essential civility.
