Thanks George, I now know I have a Version 4, 4-6-0.
Both shoulders of the gear have split allowing the axels to ocassionally 
rotate. The gear is out of production. Any ideas on saving the gear for 
less than $30.00, as Bachmann will install a version 5 motor for 
that.Thanks

your comments and tips have helped me greatly to this point. I would
like to hear from you if your addvice can be accuried on a one to one
basiss. currently rebuilding my fiest G scale..an Aristo RS-3...(older
unit) and will be getting into a few Bachman units as well as an 
Aristo Pacific and an 0-4-0 or two at some point. Your experiance could
be of great help to me (and others)if the manufactures instructions are 
as poor in real life as they are on line. Love your site and the info
you've provided thus far... if one on one is avaiable( weather through
e-mail or otherwise) please let me know. Great site

Congratulation for this site. And much more regarding the informations 
you give us (for free) very well documented and fair/honest.
I don't understand how did you find so much time for your hobby.
You give me the courage to work more on my own staff : actually 
assembling a full machined brass and white metal kit of an (electrical) 
Mallet 040 040 T metric jauge steam engine at 1/22,5 scale, adding a lot 
of small details impossible to deliver at a reasonnable price by the 
small company selling it (only 30 units produced/sold). It will run in 
RC mode with NiMh batteries cells inside the boiler and water tank. Your 
various technical informations about these subjects will be very 
helpfull to fix some issues.

George is The Bomb. I am a web neophyte-- never before surfed, never 
researched, very Luddite. Because of George I now "get" the "collective 
intelligence" of the web and am not nearly so intimidated by the 
prospect of trying to get all my LPs onto my new MacBook Pro. That is 
going to save me a lot of money (because I had planned on hiring a 
consultant to teach me) and open vistas of digital self-sufficiency. In 
addition, I completely dig George's hobby with the massive outdoor model

Hi George, I just wanted to say thank you for the information about USB 
powered devices. I bought a powerpoint charger from Hong Kong for my 
wife's ipod. (At $1 it was a good price.) I now know that it has enough 
current, and we will just ignore the lack of a charging indication. I 
was an electronics teacher, and that is a well-written piece.

I viewed your Fillmore & Western Ry. video from 1998. That brought 
back memories! I was the Conductor on the Steam Train (engine 51), you 
can see me taking the shove on the private car 409 platform as we moved

Thanks, Mr. George for a great website. It is one of the few with truly 
good tips on G scale. i had never thought of using wonderboard for 
structures. Good thing I don't have your phone number because I'd be

I have been working on the Rothwell Park RR for about 10 years. The 
railroad is 12 inch gage and has over a mile of track. During this time 
I have built 10 # 8 switches,enlarged the engine house, and laid many 
feet of new track. The next two year project will be a double track Howe 
truss bridge. This bridge will be approx 39 ft long, 12 ft wide and 8 ft 
tall. I would appreciate any tips or conversation about the bridge 
construction.

This is a very helpful website for G scale newcomers. I have a question. 
Can you remove the worm gear from a Bachmann motor? I have a second hand 
0-4-0 tank engine with a stripped gear on the motor spindle. I wanrt to 
replace but can't remove the old one easily. Is there a trick to

I noted your comment on LokSound dirty track performance issues with the 
loco going through start-up procedure after a short power interruption. 
There is a simple way to stop this behaviour. Set CV 124 to 7 and the 
loco restarts at the previous speed with no acceleration ramp up. Also 
remembers any functions (lights, etc.) that were in operation before the 
interruption. The you can set CVs 2,3 & 4 back to the default values 
and regain proper acceleration/deceleration performance. This is one of 
the good features of this decoder versus some other brands which cannot 
be programmed to ignore interruptions.
